BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- A spokesperson for the Chinese mainland on Wednesday slammed Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities for making irresponsible comments on the history of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the mainland's anniversary commemorations of victory in the war.

Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks in response to a media query about recent groundless comments from Taiwan's mainland affairs council on the commemorative activities on the mainland, including a military parade.

Chen said the DPP authorities are not only reluctant to mention the Chinese nation's victory and Japan's defeat in the war, but also -- out of a deep "nostalgia" for colonial rule -- repeatedly whitewash and glorify that history of aggression, as well as the aggressors and colonizers.

Their words and actions have betrayed China's national stance and integrity, severely damaging sentiment among compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and challenging the conscience of justice across human society, Chen said.

The spokesperson also stressed that victory in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression, which was China's first complete victory against foreign aggression in modern times, was achieved through the struggle of all Chinese people, including people from Taiwan.

Commenting on claims from Taiwan's mainland affairs council that denied the Communist Party of China's (CPC's) contributions to the war, Chen said that over the 14 years of arduous resistance, the CPC had made significant contributions and its mainstay role in the war had been crucial to victory.

History and facts cannot be altered or erased, he said, adding that any attempt to distort WWII history or deny the victorious outcome of the war is bound to fail; any scheme to obstruct unification or split the nation is doomed to be foiled; and any action that undermines the post-war international order will never succeed.
