ACCRA, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Ghana's University for Development Studies (UDS) defeated defending champion Paulista University from southern Brazil 2-1 to win the FISU University Football World Cup in Dalian, northeast China's Liaoning Province on Sunday.
The UDS came from a goal down after Paulista's Gabriel Viera stunned the former 30 seconds into the first half of the game.
However, the Ghanaians found the equalizer late into the game in the second half through captain Mohammed Sulemana. In extra time, Ezedeen Alhassan scored directly from a corner kick to secure the win.
The government of Ghana has extended a congratulatory message to the UDS for winning the title. ■
