RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Giorgian de Arrascaeta and Luiz Araujo scored second-half goals as Flamengo extended its lead at the top of Brazil's Serie A with a 2-1 away win over Corinthians on Sunday.
Yuri Alberto opened the scoring for the hosts by completing a 30-yard solo run with a left-footed shot into the far corner from a tight angle.
De Arrascaeta equalized shortly after, showing composure in heavy traffic before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Hugo Souza.
Araujo completed the turnaround three minutes from time with a low first-time drive after Jorge Carrascal's pass.
The result leaves Flamengo with 54 points, four ahead of second-placed Cruzeiro, while Corinthians is 12th in the 20-team standings with 29 points.
"It was a fantastic victory," Flamengo manager Filipe Luis told reporters after the match. "We didn't start well but we saw signs of improvement late in the first half and then made some adjustments at halftime that made the difference."
"We need to keep our feet on the ground and not think that we are the best just because we beat Corinthians away from home. There is still a long way to go in the season. We need to work hard and stay humble."
In other Brazilian Serie A fixtures on Sunday, Gremio secured a 3-1 home win over Vitoria, Bahia beat Palmeiras 1-0 in Salvador, Fluminense won 2-0 at home against Botafogo and Bragantino was held to a 2-2 home draw by Santos. ■
