MAPUTO, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese medical team in Mozambique, together with a delegation from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, offered free medical consultations on Saturday in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, to Chinese citizens and overseas Chinese living in the country.
At the event, doctors from orthopedics, cardiac surgery, spinal surgery, internal medicine, pain management, acupuncture, obstetrics and gynecology, and other specialties attended to patients. The activity was jointly conducted by the 25th Chinese medical team in Mozambique and representatives of the 23rd and 24th batches who had previously served in the country.
Liao Banghua, head of the 23rd Chinese medical team in Mozambique, returned to the country for the occasion. "The moment I saw familiar faces of overseas Chinese after stepping out of the airport, it felt as if I had returned to my working days here," he said. "The medical team is not only a bridge for China-Mozambique medical cooperation, but also an important source of health support for Chinese compatriots abroad."
In just over two hours, more than 200 people received medical advice. At the venue, Gu Zhengwei, a Chinese resident, said that doctors explained his condition and wrote down instructions for medication and follow-up visits. "Even though we are far from home, we can still feel the care of our fellow countrymen," he said.
Zhou Jing, a doctor from the 25th medical team, said "this spirit of passing on experience is touching. As we prepare to leave soon, our greatest wish is to pass down this responsibility so that the warmth of the Chinese medical team continues in Mozambique." ■
