BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- "Three direct links" have benefited people of both the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, a mainland spokesperson said Wednesday.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the "three direct links," which refer to direct mail, transport and trade links across the Taiwan Strait.

"The links have facilitated the flow of people, goods and capital across the Strait, made people-to-people exchanges more convenient, benefited the Taiwan people, and increased the common interests of compatriots of both sides," said Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson for the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, at a press conference.

The success of "three direct links" shows that adhering to the 1992 Consensus helps deepen cross-Strait communication and cooperation, Ma said.

Ma pointed out that Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has damaged the foundation for peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, exerted impact on mainlanders' travel to the island, disrupted the progress of building cross-Strait economic cooperation mechanisms and caused damage to the wellbeing of the Taiwan people.

As such, Ma urged the DPP to return to the common political foundation of the 1992 Consensus.
