JERUSALEM, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- The mortality rate for cancer in Israel declined significantly between 1995 and 2016, according to a report published on Sunday by the country's Ministry of Health and the Israel Cancer Association.

According to the data, during these years, there was a 1.7 percent decrease in cancer mortality among Jewish-Israeli men and 1.6 percent decrease among Jewish-Israeli women.

In addition, among Arab-Israeli men, there was a 0.4 percent decline in cancer mortality in those years, following a 6.3 percent rise in 1990-1994.

Among Arab-Israeli women, there is a continuous decline in cancer mortality between 1990 and 2016, by 0.5 percent.

The number of new invasive cancer cases diagnosed in 2016 among Jewish-Israeli men was dropped in 2016 to 236.8 cases per 100,000 people, compared to 263.5 in 1990.

There was also a decrease in new invasive cancer cases among Jewish-Israeli women with 256.4 cases out of 100,000 in 2016, compared with 280.9 cases diagnosed in 1990.

Among Israeli Arabs, the number of new cancer cases has increased, but the rate of cases is still low compared to the Israeli Jewish sector.

Thus, between 1990 and 2016, the number of diagnosed cancer cases among Arab-Israeli men rose from 150.7 to 210.1 cases per 100,000 people, and from 105.6 to 200.8 among Arab-Israeli women.

The major cancers in Israeli men are prostate, lung, and colon cancers. Among Israeli women, the most common types are breast, colon and lung cancers.
