UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- France and Germany will present on Friday the program for their "twinned presidency" of the UN Security Council in March and April, Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said on Thursday.

However, they emphasized, "It is not a co-presidency."

France is expected to chair the UN Security Council in March, while Germany will take over the presidency in April. The two countries have decided to coordinate their efforts by jointly preparing the Council's work plans for these two months.

The arrangement will allow the two countries "to focus on top priorities and main values of our two countries and of the European Union," said the website of the French mission to the United Nations.

France said the program of work would focus on protection of humanitarian personnel and respect for international humanitarian law, conflict resolution and commitment to peace, defense of women's rights and a strengthened participation of women in peace processes.

"It is not a co-presidency: each country will assume its presidency's prerogatives during its term in accordance with the rules and practices of the Security Council," France said.

France is an original member of the world organization and one of the five veto-wielding permanent members. Germany is one of the elected 10, each chosen by the 193-member General Assembly to a two-year term on the council.

The post of president rotates alphabetically monthly among the 15 council members following their English names.
